WoW Massive Frame Spikes 800ms+

Hi everyone. I updated my Kubuntu install from 24LTS to 26LTS.

The kernel is 7 something. Latest I believe.

Everything was running fine prior to the distro update.

When I started playing, I started to get hitching, hard where the entire game would freeze for 1second.

I have tried everything under the sun to fix this.

I have rolled back drivers to Nvidia 580, I have attempted to change to X11 instead of Wayland, which gave me worse performance. MUCH worse. I have went through each wow setting, including the DX11/12 changes. I have even went as far as to purge all Nvidia drivers, reinstalling them for the fresh kernal. I am at a complete loss on what to do. This is all new, and I am not the brightest crayon in the toolshed when it comes to linux, as I am still learning the OS. I have been on it for a few months.

There is nothing custom as far as I know when it comes to the game files. I have disabled all addons etc. I have been trying to tackle this for the last 18 hours straight basically and nothing has helped.

Can anyone please help me with this.

Today’s update changed something not documented. I had WoW running fine yesterday but the 3D rendering is now broken in both pipelines (DX11 and DX12).

I can only get into the char select but the GPU hangs afterwards (as of gx.log). I’m still investigating it but I could reproduce this on tow devices and both, arch and ubuntu lts.

Update: Looks like they changed something about how vram is allocated for ray tracing. I got this resolved by disabling RT all together.
