As the title suggests. Retail launches and plays just fine, but classic will not open. I can see the process is listed in the system monitor, but the game itself just won’t open. Please find attached my submit issue and debug logs:
Your log there shows that it is running with the system installed WINE - “/usr/bin/wine” is launching the Battle net client.
To better support modern 3D titles, it should ideally be using one of Lutris’s WINE runners. You can use the default wine-ge-8-26 or a version of Proton.
Try setting the runner in the “Runner Options” tab to the one that says wine-ge-8-26-x86_64 to see if that works any better for you.
If you have installed Steam, you may have Proton 9 and Proton Experimental available as alternative runner options.
Note it will force you to log into the Battle net client every time you change the runner, so apologies for that in advance
Thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately, neither of them have worked - I reverted to the default wine version, installed proton-ge-custom and tried that, also installed wine-staging to try out version 9.22 and that still produces the same results - retail plays fine, classic won’t.
There’s a bunch of reddit about launching WoW under Proton.
Variables can put into Lutris variables options when using Proton, and a there’s a whole install guide on Linux gaming.
I had my fill of MMOs after 15+ years of Everquest and raids with hundreds of players, so you’re on your own there
If you can come to the discord server, ping OJ and we can have a look at this - I have both classic and retail on Ubuntu or Fedora
And the proton-ge is selected from the runner options tab → wine version, if it is not present then we have other issues - it is automatically updated by lutris, no need to install from any other source
