IT IS A BUG - solution is to make a note of all the wine versions shown in lutris wine manager (on the left hand pane in lutris-> runners → wine → click on the folder icon) and remove all the wine versions EXCEPT the one needed by the game you want to install - normally it will be wine-ge-8-26 or 27-lol if it is league of legends. After that, click on the gear icon next to the folder and make sure the only wine version you have installed is selected as the default → save.
Now install
Once installed, add back any of the wine versions you removed in wine manager.
I you are on Ubuntu, Mint, Pop or flatpak, downgrade to 0.5.14 (manually download the deb for Ubuntu et al) install it for the time being
