Upgrading Skyrim Special Edition via Lutris

Hi,

I am trying to upgrade the GOG version of Skyrim Special Edition by running setup_the_elder_scrolls_v_skyrim_anniversary_upgrade_0.1.3905696_(64bit)_(70738).exe

Lutris put up an error message saying that there are already files in that folder but if I install the upgrade in a separate folder the error is that the base game cannot be found.

Is there anyway I can run the upgrade and get it to find the base game?

I append the output from inxi -b if that helps.

Hi,
There is a standard warning - “running another installer inside an existing prefix might break stuff”

I can’t see a Lutris installer for the anniversary upgrade…so how are you doing it exactly? Using the plus and “install software from executable” in the top left?

  1. Should be fine, the only thing I’d do is reset the game back to the default runner (usually wine-ge-8-26) so the update doesn’t have to fight with that first.

  2. As a manual option instead, you can just set WINE and WINEPREFIX, then run the installer. Something like
    export WINE=~/.local/share/lutris/runners/wine/wine-ge-8-26-x86_64/bin/wine
    export WINEPREFIX=~/Games/gog/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-special-edition
    $WINE updater.exe

Oh - don’t forget - if you run Lutris in debug (lutris -d) you’ll get a lot more helpful info, like Lutris and WINE version information.

Perhaps not exactly what you’re looking for (offline update), but have you tried right-clicking the game and pressing “Install updates”? AFAIK, this should query GOG for patch installers and handle the update for you.

Thanks,

I’ll try both of these suggestions and let you know how I get on.

I have got things going in the right direction. The Anniversary upgrade is now installed and all I need to do is import my mods,

Done manually as suggested by Asaftiifm.

Thanks again I can now get back to serious business/

While it seems like you have solved the problem you had, I will describe how I do game updates.

I have three GOG games installed, I install them via GOG Galaxy, and keep them updated easily.

GOG Galaxy runs well enough to manage your games

Yes,

I have solved the problem via Lutris. I used the installer in Lutris and although it says it dates from 2014 I followed the instructions and got an up-to-date version of Galaxy and had that installed. It works well and as you say life is a lot easier now. All I need now is to find a mod manager that works with my distro, PCLinuxOS, and I will be fully set up to play Skyrim free of the Steam overhead.

Oh, I’ve tried Vortex and Mod Organiser2 they don’t work as Protontricks is not in the PCLOS repos, so I have to manage mods by hand and they don’t always work. Still it mostly works and that will do for now.

wine-ge-8-26 runner can be used to install MO2, and it works fine, but for better Skyrim performance I run it with Proton of my choice through Lutris (and umu-launcher). No protontricks needed.

Installation for MO2 was much in the same way you install a patch - set the prefix, set WINE, then WINE run the MO2 installer.

After install, duplicate the Skyrim Lutris entry, set it to the MO2 exe, and change the runner to Proton. It happily detects Skyrim, and installing mods works without problems.

The only thing I ever have real issues with is getting ENB to work painlessly
