The game works fine in the menus, but when I try to start a campaign it crashes, my monitor goes black for a few seconds and it’s little box telling me I can adjust the brightness appears like it does whenever I fire up/restart the pc then the image appears again with the desktop, the game is gone(except the sounds which keeps on playing) [and if I have other programs open some of the also crash/are gone at this point, but not all of them] and I get a pop-up at the bottom of my desktop telling my either
or a similar box with something about xwayland crashing if I remember right, or once both boxes at the same time.
At which point all that is left is to restart Linux which takes forever because a stop job has to run to(I’m guessing) wipe whatever is left of the game from memory and shut it down properly.
I tried both wine and ge-proton, multiple in-game settings(fullscreen, windowed, different resolutions, framecaps, etc.) mangohud on or off, same behavior. Here are the logs and stuff from one of those tries. Suggestions pretty please?
Dropbox denies me access to abw files…what’s wrong with normal text?
Playing on GoG? Steam? Checked if there is a ProtonDB entry for it?
Honestly? Sounds like the GPU reset. My 7900XT does something similar if I yank the display cable out for a few minutes. That said, you’re are running Mesa 25-devel and plasma…might want to try the stable release.
Edit: Tried the demo on Steam, runs fine under Proton 9 and experimental (mesa 24, xwayland, cinnamon)
Ups, sorry, it’s a whole long story with .txt that I won’t bore you with. Anyway here’s the same output in a normal text file.
I wanted to give you a fresh one from today since I noticed the one I originaly uploaded is somehow missing the begining, but when I tried to launch the game again today this time the screen stayed black and I ended up having to force shutdown the pc from the button.
As far as the mesa drivers… look, I’m not gonna sit here and pretend I remember exactly why, but I do know I had a good reason for going with these specific drivers at that time.
So I’m gonna keep them for now if you don’t mind.
Actually never mind, ram had nothing to do with it as today after I adjusted my settings to start playing it for real it started crashing again.
So I took each setting individually changing it from default to what I wanna use. And out of all the dumb, retarded things it seem changing the grass quality from medium to high is what causes it…
So yeah, if anyone else runs into similar problems with this game and you read this thread, leave the darn grass alone!!! hahaha…
LE: Sigh, once again never mind, I get to the first battle and the game has weird graphical glitches, been playing with both ingame and Lutris settings every since and no luck so far…
See for yourself:
LLE: Well having exausted all other options I finally decided to kinda go the route @Asaftiifm suggested, so I replaced amdvlk and lib32-amdvlk with vulkan-radeon and lib32-vulkan-radeon and things seem to work properly now.
I’m sure it’s gonna come back to bite me in the ass sooner or later as(like I said above) I do remember I had a very good reason for installing these specific versions, but oh well…
