Reach For The Stars (2000 Edition) - Clicks not registering

Hi there, I am trying to get an obscure abandonware game called Reach For The Stars working. The main issue is that most clicks are not registering. It seems that having the cursor below and to the right of a button has the best chance of the click being registered, but it is roughly 1 out of 10 or 1 out of 20. The game mostly works well otherwise.

I’d like to get it working on Lutris/Wine so I can make a recipe and have it be archived for posterity. Its actually a pretty great 4X game like stellaris.

I have tried:

  • Setting my monitor resolution to 800x600 (the game only runs at this res)
  • Setting my refresh rate to 60hz
  • Turning off various default settings in lutris config
  • Running in a virtual desktop (crashes?)
  • Older versions of wine

If you run the game yourself, you can partially navigate with hotkeys (hover a button and hold right mouse to see the hotkey for a button). The game seems to work well other than mouse click detection.
