Problem after installing a new game

I’ve had Star Trek Online and The Lord of the Rings Online running together in Lutris for years. Because of a special event I decided to install Dungeons & Dragons Online, as well. (This is the other game from Standing Stone Games and it uses more-or-less the same code base.) It installed and ran fine. But after installing it I find that Star Trek Online will not launch. ??? Aren’t games installed in their own separate virtual systems? How would installing another game interfere with an existing game? LOTRO still runs fine. But, that’s from the same company and probably uses the same settings.

So now I am wondering what may have been changed that prevents STO from launching? I looked at the logs and there is a clear error message, though I don’t know what it means.

After waiting days for some sort of response, I gave up and tried to reinstall, tedious as that is. It cannot even install anymore. The installer dies just like the game launcher. This after completely deleting the STO prefix. Looks like I just need to find some other way to run games in Linux. Lutris can’t do it.

Hi,

From reading your crash analysis it seems like the crash is inside the Windows Application and not lutris, hard to tell 100% but most likely.
Also I can recommend disabling DXVK/VKD3D as it may help. And ofc depending on if you have an nvidia card or amd card they may also be related to the issues you are facing.

If you have the 10 series of GTX nvidia card, I know there have been some compatability issues with linux.
Anyways, try downloading proton GE or the cachyOs Proton. It may save you.

Otherwise I can recommend testing out cachyos as well, its usually a lot more stable when it comes to gaming on linux. Sometimes you may be missing some obscure dependency and this distro may or may not solve it. Worth a try either way - it’s free after all

Good luck, and I hope it helps!!
