Possible to use different wine version?

EA app only install/runs via latest wine-ge-8-26
However I need to run C&C3 Wrath’s Kane strictly in proton 7 (due to diff maths lib causing desync in later protons).
Problem is, EA app won’t run in proton 7. I just get a black splash popup and never can close.

So I want to run EA app in wine-ge-8-26 but make my EA game run under proton 7.
Is this possible?

To my knowledge unfortunately no. If the game is started by the launcher it is launched within the same prefix and therefore same wine version, no way around that.

Have you tried using GE-Proton7-43? It’s the latest Proton 7 GE version, perhaps the launcher works with it. Easiest way to acquire it is through ProtonUp-Qt.

awesome, ProtonUp is so cool.
will delve deeper into trying to get EA app games working under old proton 7.xx
and report back later

To download prior GE versions to 8-26 you can get them from here…

so for example if you wanted 7-43 (which is on ‘page 4’ in above link) you would download “wine-lutris-GE-Proton7-43-x86_64.tar.xz” and then extract it to “~/.local/share/lutris/runners/wine”. then when you start Lutris it will be selectable in the usual area you select the current 8-26 at.

If the game is anyhow launchable outside of the EA app, then yes, every Windows game/app on Lutris can use its own version of Wine or Proton. But if there is no way to run the game outside of the EA app, then I’m afraid you’re out of luck…
