As the tile says, after today I upgraded lutris to version 0.5.20, when I launched my games I noticed that it couldn’t load and, after changing the Wine from Proton-GE to other runners, I tried launching Horizon: Zero Dawn and I noticed that even though the game loaded succesfully, it basically deleted the data contained in the Wine prefix, or the portion of data containing the game save files.
This same things happened on a couple of other games, but not on all of them.
What can I do now? Is there any thing I can check to perhaps recover my data?
Unfortunately I haven’t set up any backup system on the drive that contained the games and their data, so if I’m not able to find the game saves I think the better option would be to try analyze the drive and hope to recover a game save.
Same exact thing just happened to me. Totally messed up my 120+ hour fallout playthrough. Such a disheartening thing to happen to someone. Odd how they put a fearmongering warning when using the previous version too considering this new update borks everything, AI generated code has doomed us all.
Interesting, do you think Lutris started to introduce AI-generated code?
But yeah, this is very disappointing as I didn’t know this was update contained breaking changes.
The notice was only about the fact that the previous version was not supported anymore, not that it would cause havoc.
Very, very disappointed.
do they’re using AI to code ?
Can confirm: same happened to me right now, lost all my Oblivion data (30 hours).
Did you make a search on all your hard disc? It is possible new GE-Proton version no more store game saves in your HOME but in wineprefix?
Here’s what I assume to have happened:
Before the update: Lutris used the save path “/home/Blast/Documents/My Games//Saves”
After said update: Lutris starts using “/home/Blast/Games/epic-games-store/drive_c/users/Blast/Documents/My Games//Saves” instead
In my case, my save files were still at the previous folder, so I just moved them to the new path. (paths might not be exact, it’s just how it was for me)
I have checked and I have a folder in ~/Games/umu/umu-default/drive_c/users/steamuser but unfortunately it’s empty. I don’t know where to extend my search, I have checked the game save data location and they’re empty unfortunately.
search in your whole HOME folder
Oh, thank you and @B.Burnout. I have searched in my HOME dir and found that under Documents/ there are now somehow folders containing the games data. I assume ProtonGE moved the data there for some reason, and since Horizon Zero Dawn stopped working for me with ProtonGE, when I switched to another Wine runner it just couldn’t find the game data folder, so I simply moved it back there.
Still, that’s kind of a weird and unexpected behaviour, and I think that there should be at least a notice warning the users about this beahviour.
