Lutris 0.5.18 not working in Game Mode

Just got the 0.5.18 update through the Discover app on Steam Deck. Everything works fine from the desktop, I can launch games through Steam in desktop mode. But switched to Game Mode and games do not launch, just get the Steam loading screen. I have to abort the game.

I am having a similar issue in game mode (not in desktop mode) since updating to Lutris 0.5.18 and using the newly introduced ge-proton as the Wine runner.

I can hear the game audio in the background, so the game is running… but the Steam loading screen with the spinning circle just doesn’t go away so I can’t actually see or play the game.

If I change the Wine runner back to lutris-7.2-2 or wine-ge-8-26, then this doesn’t happen and the game runs fine so it appears to be possibly limited to Lutris’ usage/implementation of ge-proton

Are you referring to Feral Game Mode? (Not really any knowledge about Steam Deck)

If you do, this seems to be an issue on Linux Desktop as well. Whenever I run a game with Game Mode enabled, I get a bunch of error messages… sometimes the game would run, other times it would not. I have tried to reinstall Feral, but it doesn’t seem to do anything, so I am still with this issue.

Sorry no not Feral. SteamOS has a “Game Mode” that is the default when booting up a Steam Deck… it is somewhat similar to the Steam Big Picture Mode but not the same

I also have the same issue with Lutris 0.5.18 on Bazitte OS using its Steam OS Gaming mode, games launch, but they are not on top / displaying, i can hear the music in the game running, but the game visuals are not on top as it were, i just see a spinning Steam logo.

If i switch to Desktop mode, the games launch fine.

If i roll back to Lutris 0.5.17 using Warehouse, then games launch fine again in Gaming mode / Steam OS mode on bazitte

You can add the following environment variable to get it working.

Key: PROTON_VERB
Value: waitforexitandrun

I have added PROTON_VERB=waitforexitandrun to my environment variables, which I can see when I run “env” - added it to ~/.bashrc to make it persistent each time I boot, but I still have the issue with the latest version of Lutris available in flatpak, with Game Mode on Bazzite OS where the Game launches via the Steam Game Mode interface, but the game is in the background, I can hear the game music running (eg Need for Speed Unbound running via the EA store app), but can’t see the Game itself, its like its behind the current Steam interface layer.

If I roll back Lutris 0.5.17 via flatpak using Warehouse (commit dated 2024-04-12 (ab3eb86e), then it goes back to working in Game Mode / Steam mode on Bazzite OS.

This issue has been plaguing me since September, were you able to resolve the problem?

I have read that Lutris 0.5.19 will fix the issue, but last i checked its not released yet.

Until then, using the Warehouse app in Bazzite os, and rolling back to the version i mentioned in the last post works for me

Looks like there’s issues with Lutris 0.5.19 and the flatpak version will be skipped, waiting for 0.5.20 to be released, Latest release (0.5.19) is missing deb artifact · Issue #5943 · lutris/lutris · GitHub

Thank you so much!
