Looking for Linux Gamers Who Are Non-native English Speakers (FOSS Research Project)

Hi everyone,

I’m conducting doctoral research at the University of Barcelona on how gaming affects English language acquisition. As my project relies entirely on FOSS, I thought Lutris users would be perfect for this study.

About the project

My research uses exclusively free and open source software, respecting participant privacy throughout the process. I’m exploring how different gaming experiences might influence language development patterns in non-native English speakers.

Who I’m looking for

  • Gamers (any type of games, frequency, or distribution)
  • Non-native English speakers
  • 18+ years old
  • Can spare about 10 minutes

What’s involved

Participation includes a survey, voice recordings, and a conversation with our conversational agent about your gaming experiences.

As a thank you, participants will be entered into a €250 prize draw.

How to participate

Just visit: videogames.emmacaputo.com from your computer or Android browser

I’d really appreciate it if you could share this with other gamers who might be interested. More diverse perspectives will make the research much more valuable.

Thanks for your help!

Emma

Interesting project. Is there a deadline for the survey? I’m too busy to do it today, but I think I could later on.
Also, are you surveying only Linux gamers or gamers in general, and are trying to incentivise Linux gamers to participate? I actually suppose it is the latter, but I didn’t get it entirely clearly here… As a PhD candidate in literature and culture myself, I think the platform used to access games might also affect how people acquire language.
What’s your field of research?

Thanks for your interest! No rush - the survey will be open for a few more weeks, so take your time. We’re surveying all gamers, but since I used free software to set up this project, I thought Linux users and gamers might be especially interested.

If you know anyone else who might want to participate, please share the survey or let me know how to contact them. Thanks again.
