GTA IV freezes with black screen before it reaches main menu

I have problem running GTA IV. The game freezes after intro clips before it reaches main menu. I can’t even close steam overlay pop outs (with shift+insert) while startup films with rockstar logo are playing.
The game process uses 120%-160% of the CPU time and I have to kill it off to regain control of the system.

Any tips on how to find cause of the problem?

I’m running Ubuntu 16.04 with Intel CPU, GTX 970 and NVIDIA proprietary drivers

Try playing this game in the PC, maybe this game can support the PC version.
