Final Fantasy XIV Launcher Problem (GloriousEggroll)

Screenshot

Hey guys! I’ve been using both the Standalone (installed twice, same problem) and the test 64bit with dx11 (installed once, same problem) by GloriousEggroll.

I’m able to install the FFXIV launcher, wine does it’s thing, and then once the launcher boots and takes me through the drill of entering my account, password, and one-time password. It’s followed by a message that FFXIV needs to update and it may take several minutes, then completely blackscreens inside the launcher.

When I try to exit out of the launcher it asks me if I want to quit FFIV, I click confirm, and nothing happens. I have to xkill the process, and when I boot it back up I get an HTTPS error every time, which leads me to believe it’s a corruption in the launcher so I re-install but it’s the same every time.

I’m using Fedora 28. I’ve yet to try it the way GloriousEggroll suggests in the video on his site, but that’s going to be my next step as far as I’m concerned. Any help with the lutris install though would be much appreciated!

EDIT: I found in a previous video he suggested going into the FFXIV_BOOT.cfg file and changing the browser type to 2 – this didn’t fix the issue. I’m still getting "A system error has occurred: 404. HTTPS System Error.

You already found the FFXIV_BOOT.cfg change, now go into your %PREFIX/users/%USER%/My Documents/My Games/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn/ and remove the web folder. This should resolve it

@elnemesio I don’t see a web folder in there. Is it actually called 'Web"? I only have FFXIV.cfg and FFXIV_BOOT.cfg in the /My Games/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn/ folder.

EDIT: Watched the video GloriousEggroll made explaining before the Lutris launcher and can see he has a few folders in there, one being ‘web’ . I don’t have any of these folders.

EDIT 2: I was able to fix the issue! (Not quite, read below) It was a problem with the wine version. After doing some research I found some threads explaining that wine-staging-3.9.1 is a test build, so I just switched to wine-staging-3.8.1 and it solved all the issues.

Adding another update via bump in case anyone has additional information on how to get past this problem.

After waiting for the updates to install, the game launched and I was able to get to the “Stormblood” login screen. I selected my server to login to and it got caught on a hang. I clicked ‘x’ to close it, and it closed without an issue, but when I relaunched it was acting funny again like it had in wine-staging-3.9.1.

It had me agree to EULA again, enter my account, password, and 1-time password, and then said it would be several minutes followed by a black screen. I exited out and was revisited by the same black screen displaying an HTTPS error.

At this point I did have a web folder. Tried deleting it, problem is persisting. Going to try wine 3.7 to test.

EDIT: In Wine 3.7 I get this error: http://i.imgur.com/S3ffBkD.png so it seems to be a problem with a certificate when the game is launched. I’d need to fix this via IE, but not too certain on how to do that.

I have the same problem and i’m using Ubuntu 16.04

@xion192 – I’ve been in touch with GloriousEggroll over on reddit, we couldn’t narrow the problem down. He told me he’s never ran into this error before and is currently unsubscribed to the game so I’m not sure if anyone else on here is heading a project to getting FFXIV working on Lutris, but the best bet would probably be heading over to Wine and asking the app managers there.

Currently they have FFXIV running on “gold”, haven’t tried to install it from there yet but I’ll be giving it a go shortly. I can keep you updated if you’d like.

Changes i had to make to make it work:

FFXIV_Boot.cfg
BrowserType 2

FFXIV.cfg
CutsceneMovieOpening 1

Also had to delete the Web folder, I’m unsure why yours isn’t creating one.

I couldn’t get DXVK working with the ‘test installer for 64 bit mode and dx11’ I had to end up using FFXIV Standalone Installer, then enable DXVK and set it to 0.54

Hi,

Regarding “A system error has occurred: 404. HTTPS System Error”

I was having the same problem and found the solution. The problem Arieses when you have the language set to something other then English on your system. For me the actual folder is not created in “%PREFIX/users/%USER%/My Documents/My Games/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn/” Though the folder exists because it is created by lutris. For some reason the Game will create the following folder “%PREFIX/users/%USER%/Mijn Documenten/My Games/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn/” and install there.

Mijn Documenten = My Documents in my system language.

I found that the web folder is placed in here as are the cfg files we need to edit. NOTE!: BrowseType in this file is set to 0 by default causing the “A system error has occurred: 404. HTTPS System Error”.

Hope this helps some people. Good luck and have fun!

I have come across a new issue, after installing, I type in my login information then hit the play button, I get a window that pops up saying “Unable to complete version check [30410][30607][10009][19900][10035]”. Has anyone seen this error and found a fix for it?

I’m having this error too. Haven’t found a fix for it yet. If I do, I will let you know.
