Failed to install any external local game

Using Lutris from Bazzite distro ( FC42) .

Any external game that I tried to install manuallly goes all to the end of the installer wizard but at the end it reports something like:

This game has no executable set. The install process didn't finish properly.

Although in other games installations if I select “execute game” it works correctly being “ST: Birth of the Federation” as ana example.

When I exit the installer it reports this kind of errors.

Any ideas ?

Another try ( another game) almost with the same behaviour:

everythiong installs correctly ( at least according to the import wizard) and at the end it reports not a valid executable file.

Just a few things:

You should always provide basic information about your specific gear, environment (i. e. OS, graphics card, driver and versions, hardware specs) and installed game, along with your question.

You seem to try running the game in a Wine prefix, but is your Wine installation complete?

If your game requires 32-Bit dependencies, you’ll also need to enable the ‘i386’ architecture deps in your package manager, or in the terminal, see:

(Edit: missed that you already have 32-Bit support, so that shouldn’t apply here)

The error messages indicate missing DirectX (9) / Direct3D DLLs - maybe some ‘Microsoft Redistributable’, too; if the game’s installer doesn’t install those in the process, you could try installing them in the prefix used first, then install the game in the same prefix (without overwriting it), if the game installation failed, otherwise vice-versa.

It might also help trying to use a ‘Proton/GE’ prefix instead, those are optimized for gaming, too.

And, since Lutris is provided by your distro ‘Bazzite’ (which I’m completely unfamiliar with, it’s not even listed in distrowatch), there may be some subtle installation/configuration issues, for which you may need to ask for support in their forums.

The ‘failed linking…’ log entries could also indicate a problem with permissions or subtle deviations in your distro’s file structure, which is not covered by the installation process.

You could either try examining the file structure and adding probably missing folders and permissions via ‘mkdir’, ‘chown’ and ‘chmod’, or uninstall your ‘native’ Lutris and try using the flatpak version (and using Proton/GE instead of a Wine prefix), to track down or exclude issues with your installed Lutris/your OS.
