I’m new to linux and I recently installed lutris with aur in order to play the Epic Games version of GTA V.
When I try to run EGS to install the game the launcher never opens – the stop button returns to play after a minute or so and the application log shows a bunch of errors. Also tried with proton hotfix and same result, except it gives me an error window.
issue report
Used to be that you had to set EGS to a system WINE so it could auto-patch and restart itself. When it stabilised, you set it to wine-ge-8-26 or Proton, depending on your needs.
“Recently installed Lutris” - please double check you’re up to date on version (~5.18) so it can support EGS and Proton properly.
Steps I take are roughly: -
- Enable Lutris EGS source - in preferences → sources
- Press Connect, and login
- Install any game to install EGS (takes a while )
- After install is finished, close the Lutris install box
- Right click on EGS, and switch runner to system WINE (in my case, wine-staging 10.0rc3)
- Press Play on EGS, let it patch and restart
- Log in again
- “Not now” when asked about Epic Online Service
- Preferences → uncheck “minimise to system tray” and “run when my computer starts”
- Close EGS
- Change runner to preferred Proton and restart Lutris
- Run EGS and login again if needed (login creds can break when you change to Proton)
- Install and run games as desired
Just for info, I use GE’s Proton for EGS rather than Steam’s.
Edit: Yes it’s horrible and lengthy, but it always works for me
