I installed Lutris 0.5.17 from my distribution repositories, then followed these simple actions:
Clicked the “+” button;
Selected the action “Search the Lutris website for installers”;
Found my game in there (Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Purgatory).
But when I click on the selected game, I only get one of two errors: either “not found” or “No installer available.”. I got the first error initially, and the second one when I found out about sources, disabled most of them and enabled the “Local” one.
At no time did Lutris even asked me for the path to the game installer, and seeing how quick it was to throw its errors it clearly did not scan my disks.
Am I trying to use Lutris in a “wrong” way? Does it actually have support for DRM-free GOG installers?
PS: I gave the title of a specific game in the earlier example, but tried other ones and always got the same errors.
Support was fixed in later 5.18 - this GitHub issue - not sure if it has made it into the latest deb builds, but it does work again in the Git version of Lutris.
For a workaround in 5.17 you can download the install script, and just change the line:
I’m not sure this is related to my problem, as I never got the “No Token Available” error in the first place. Not in the Lutris GUI, nor in Lutris console output. But maybe I’m experiencing another symptom of the same underlying bug.
The builds I have access to right now are 0.5.12 (from Debian Bookworm) and 0.5.17 (from Debian Sid).
Selecting a game from the Lutris UI does not seem to download any kind of game script, or if it does I don’t know where it is stored.
Where there are only “auto” installers for some games, it requires the connection of the GoG source.
There is nothing stopping you writing your own installer, though.
Thanks, that explains my problem, most probably the other couple games I selected use this “auto” installer too.
Is there a way to know if a given DRM-free installer is supported directly from Lutris UI, or do I have to check on the website to find that kind of information? Or even better: a way to filter the search in Lutris UI to exclude the installers relying on a direct connection to a store account?
I do have a GOG account and the game I wanted to test is linked to that account, but I already use another tool for the download of these installers (LGOGDownloader) and do not want to connect other tools to this account.
Sadly I clearly won’t muster the time and motivation to learn that anytime soon, especially as most of my free time is already taken by my own software (that happens to be about video games Linux integration too)
A bit off-topic, @Asaftiifm, I see you own Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Purgatory too, and I wanted to try it with Lutris to see if that way it would still be affected by a bug I experience: Music not working?, page 1 - Forum - GOG.com
To make it short, the background music is not working, despite all other sounds playing correctly. More surprising, I get these symptoms with the native Linux build and with the Windows build played through WINE.
Do you get that too? Or do you get music playback with Lutris?
The same - normal sound effects work, but there is no music on either version - aside from the brief “jingle” on game startup. Since it wasn’t immersion breaking (I like reading! ) I sort of ignored it.
Thank you for the confirmation the problem is not specific to my setup!
I noticed there was a problem because the previous game in the series had music, and there is a music slider in the options menu. And of course now that I know it is missing, it is much harder to ignore
(I guess my workaround is going to be playing the soundtrack in some audio player in the background, but it’s still frustrating to think I won’t get context-appropriate music)
I got in touch with GOG support but they could not really help me, then with the publishers (still no answer yet) and finally the developers (no answer either). I thought testing the game in Lutris would give me a hint as to why the music is missing, depending on whether or not I would have gotten music through Lutris, but your feedback already gives me the answer I was looking for.
Anyway, thanks again, both for the explanation as to why I could not install the game from Lutris, and the confirmation that the lack of music is not specific to my setup.
