Difference between DXVK and dgVoodoo2?

Hello! I was recently trying to install Final Fantasy XI Online on my machines (FINAL FANTASY XI Online - Lutris), and I noticed that many of the install scripts configure both dgvoodoo and DXVK.

I thought they were both wrappers, doing essentialy the same thing: as stated here (https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Wrappers#2000s_and_later_APIs), they’re supposed to translate older Direct3D games into recent graphics API; am I wrong?

It sounds like, by combining them togheter, you’re translating both to Direct3D 11/12 AND to Vulkan. Is that needed?

EDIT: Mayhaps this has to do with D8VK’s merge into DXVK in July 2024 (Implement Direct3D 8 Frontend by AlpyneDreams · Pull Request #3411 · doitsujin/dxvk · GitHub). Before that, a Direct3D 8 game like FFXI would have required something more than just DXVK. If I understand this correctly, however, DXVK is now the only required tool.
