Can't activate Origin games

This is specific to the Sims 4 for me, but a search reveals that this seems to be a new issue for a variety of EA games on Linux (I had links to related issues, but was informed that new users can only put 2 links per post… )

After installing the game, I click ‘play’, but it immediately terminates with this error: “We are unable to connect to EA servers to activate The Sims 4 on this computer using your account. Please try again later”.

I also wanted to upload the game log, but ran out of allowable links.

I was able to resolve the problem by using winetricks to install winhttp and wininet
