Battlenet/overwatch cannnot find FreeType font library

Having a problem getting DXVK Overwatch or battlenet installed, several errors appearing in the console.
I have checked dependencies several times, but maybe I’m missing something:
( running opensuse tumbleweed, vega64, 2950x)

when the first battlenet window pops up there is no text:

Not sure what to try next with this.
I do have freetype installed:

Have you installed WIne-Staging into your system?

Yes, I did install wine-staging as per the dependencies instructions.
I think I then removed it and installed the normal wine package. I thought one of the dependency instructions said to do this but I cant find it now.
I was getting the same freetype library error before I did that.

Well, you have a lot of errors in there. So something is funky with your install.

Can always give the “Try disabling the runtime” a go (but I’m grasping at straws here, I know someone had something similar as you, but no clue what he/she did to resolve it)

yeah, it looks bad.
I’ve already uninstalled the major packages and reinstalled everything, and this is on a 2 week old opensuse tumbleweed install, so the system should be pretty clean.

Maybe I’ll try to reinstall tumbleweed from scratch this weekend.

Hey, it could be something simple. I just don’t know what.

I think you can ignore the “JSON errors” I seem to get them now aswell, but the files are created correctly.

EDIT: Yeah - thats a non issue. A merge option was added, and it tries to merge an empty file which fails for some reason, and gives this error. So ignore the JSON errors.

good to know, thanks.

I unchecked “prefer system libraries” in Lutris preferences and I was able to install the battlenet app and run the overwatch install script as well with no font issues.

I now have the mouse spinning issue in overwatch, but I think that due to my ultrawide not being 16x9.

Ah, then you are using the Lutris libs instead! Goodo

Yeah, Ultrawide and OW don’t work. Use a virtual desktop with something normal 16:9.

yeah I got it going at 3440x1400 ( I think ) and 21:9. no more mouse spinning, but wow the perf is really poor.
frames dip from 85 to 40 and lots of stuttering, and such, very choppy. I’ll have to work on the tuning and see if it makes a difference in a virtual desktop.

You start with making a shader cache, and a dxvk cache (that will be used when you lose your shadercache for some reason. Just play it will get better.

Mark as solved btw.

I just used this and can say it works on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed, specifically for StarCraft II (but really this is a Battle.net issue). Thanks!
