Battle.net Update Agent Problem

I cant even get to the store page. If I do get into the launcher it just has an “issue with agent” error. I tried a bunch of different runners, one did work I cant remember which one. Still trying a few workarounds.

Hey. Probs with Linux Mint (21.3 & 22.1) here too. While is was playing (3 hours ago) the Game freezes. One Minute later i "xkill"ed it. After this the same as by blackPhillip. Except my Battlenet freezes after a few seconds. I checked my Hardware. All seems to be fine with my PC. In the next Step i tried a Rollback with Timeshift. But the Probs are still there. So i installed Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon. Here is the 45% Prob during the Installation-Process. I tried Flatpak and System-Version… :frowning:

Similar issue with the freezing. Had a freeze mid-game. Then bnet was hanging and acting funny. Reinstalling is hit or miss depending on how you do it, sometimes it hangs at 45% installing the .exe directly through steam does not have this issue. But all issues past that persist.

The battlenet Agent is having issues communicating with their servers. There was a similar issue sometime ago I read about on reddit.

Nothing new to add but a +1 here. Pop OS 22.04, wine 10 stable, bnet worked fine 2 days ago but is giving me the “Agent Asleep Trying to Wake It” message (BLZBNTBNA00000005).

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling and, as above, the process stalled and then failed at 45%.

Sad, that Darcraft isn’t gonna play itself!

Got the same problem, PopOS 22.04, on both deb and Flatpak version.

I fixed it following this Reddit comment : https://www.reddit.com/r/Lutris/comments/1kbx0lq/comment/mpyn0oo/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Hope it helps

That fixed it!!

To save everyone else the click, here’s the fix:

  • Install protonplus (flatpak app)
  • Launch protonplus and select lutris in the left hand panel
  • Locate wine versions, select wine staging tkg (kron4ek)
  • Download the 10.6 version
  • Once it has extracted, make sure lutris is not running and launch lutris.
  • Right click bnet entry → configure → runner options tab → wine version and select the wine-staging 10.6 tkg version from the list → save and press play. DO NOT INSTALL MONO IF IT PROMPTS YOU!!!

I can now start the game, but something is wrong the mouse …

It is just a normal Ubuntu cursor ingame, and I can’t click anywhere.

edit: Fixed the mouse problem by running in Virtual Desktop mode

Same here, Launcher errors out when trying to update WoW Retail.

Once this popps, the entire Launcher just freezes.

actual workaround for Battle.Net:
Install Wine Staging 10.6 tkg with ProtonPlus Install ProtonPlus on Linux | Flathub

Thanks that helped. Simply get Wine 10.6. With Arch Linux, just update & reboot the System, then select System (10.6) as Wine version within Lutris.

Edit: Well too early the good news. Game is now windowed mode and UI elements are shifted upwards (text outside of the buttons).

You installed the exact “Wine staging 10.6 TKG” version?

So! Game runs now. I use atm Wine Staging 10.6 tkg with ProtonPlus and by Gameoptions: /home/i/Games/battlenet/drive_c/Battle.net-Setup.exe

Thx very much

Confirm working on Fedora 42, Lutris 0.5.19.
Install ProtonPlus Flatpak
In protonplus select “Lutris”, Wine, Win-Staging-Tkg, install version 10.6
Launch Lutris, Rightclick configure your BattleNet
Setting Runner options “Wine version” to “wine-10.6-staging-tkg-amd64” and hit cancel on Mono install

Hello can confirm for Ubuntu 25.04, Bottles not launching battle net since today with Soda 9.01 but following the the above, with Wine staging 10.6 TKG it runs . But I no longer have Gsync, not on wayland nor X11 with the Gsync indicator on… Anyone got a clue?

Thank you

Can confirm installing “wine-10.6-staging-tkg-amd64” helped launch Battle.net for me as well on Ubuntu 25.04.

Anyone launching into a black screen about half the time though? Usually have to close Battle.net and launch again and it usually works then.

If you have steam, you can upgrade inside stream proton experimental, and then run inside lutris by proton experimental runner, and should work.

Boy am I glad this thread exists.
Working on Linux Mint 22.1, using the “wine-10.6-staging-tkg-amd64” in Lutris worked like a charm.

I typically launch from Steam, and using proton experimental worked there as well.

I switched proton versions back and forth and the GE version (9-27) simply no longer works for me even after updating with experimental (Agent went to sleep error), so experimental it is for the foreseeable future. Thanks everyone

Worked perfectly so far. I deleted Battlenet and Wow so I had to reinstall. I was able to install Battlenet with no issue and of course, it crashed when I tried to open it. I then applied your solution. Battlenet came up perfectly and I was able to install WoW itself. I went into game for a few minutes and everything seemed to work well. I’ll have to play for a while of course just to judge stability but so far so great. Thank you for your help!

This worked like a charm! Thank you!

Can confirm that “wine-10.6-staging-tkg-amd64” work. If it not work or do something strange maybe you use the 10.6 without tkg in the name.
