Looking through the runners list on Lutris, I see there are quite a few, sometimes more than one for the same platform, but there doesn’t seem to be an Apple II one - or would I be overlooking something? What if one wants to add Apple II games to Lutris - if there is no emulator in the “default” list, can one be added? In all, what is the state of things with Apple II emulation on Linux and Lutris?
Would you mean these options to be used under Lutris, or separately? Of the two, I don’t think I see RetroArch listed among the Lurtis runners at all, MAME is present, but it seems fairly multi-purpose; upon looking more closely, I see something called MicroM8 listed as an Apple II emulator, I don’t think I have ever come across it before, but maybe it would be a better option?
Also, I am probably going a bit too far, but - if an emulator is installed independently on the system (I am told that currently a Linux port of AppleWin is a “best” option, for one reason or another), would Lutris be able to detect and “import” it similar to how it would detect a DOSBox installation? Or - can an emulator somehow be added to Lutris by a user?
The runner for RetroArc is named libretro, though I did just add the runner, looks like it is a slightly older version without the Apple II emulator. That may be updated in the future.
If you want to run a independently installed app then this can be done using the “Add locally installed game”, then select the ‘Linux (Runs native game)’ runner. In the Game Options tab you can enter the exec and arguments required to run the emulator/game.
