Wine steam can't update due to download error

I am trying to install Battle Brothers and it is failing with:

The executable at path None/prefix can’t be found, please check the destination folder.
Some parts of the installation process may have not completed successfully.

I see nothing in my Games directory. I have tons of other titles installed fine, but it seems this one isn’t installing like I expected.

Any suggestions on how I can get this fixed?

EDIT: Seems the issue is with Wine Steam, when it installs it tries to update and the update always fails with:

Aborting HTTP request because we received a response with a content-length over 64M and we are not streaming
[2019-06-13 22:10:39] Error: Download of package (resources_all) failed after 0 bytes (200).

All the others files seem to download ok. Anyone know how I can get rid of this error. I did a bunch of searching but can’t find a resolution anywhere online.

Same issue here, Seems it’s the update of wine who dosen’t work

I’ve managed to get this to work by playing around with play on linux, there’s a number of posts on this issue on the forum so i’m going to make an issue on the lutris git.

The changes i made on POL are:

  • Disable dwrite library in the configuration
  • Force builtin for gameoverlayrender

In terms of the underlying issue a full debug revealed some DHCP i’ll try and find the full log.

Same issue here on Arch Linux

Same issue. A new installation of lutris and wine steam.

Using

  • ubuntu 18.04
  • wine version: ge-protonified-nofshack-4.9-x86_64
  • DXVK version: 1.2.2

Work around:

  • Install steam in windows
  • Replace everything in the steam folder from windows to wine prefix folder
  • Start steam from lutris
  • Everything works again

Had the exact same issue. Tried to figure out on why this happens but no luck. worked around with manually loading the windows steam setup .exe and install it with wine to the drive-c folder. afterwards in lutris I set the “Custom Steam location” to the just created Steam installation. Was detected without any problems and works ever since

OK so i’m pretty sure that this is a Lutris config issue I’ve got it running on Play on Linux by experimenting with drivers and by setting it to run in windows XP mode

Here’s a workaround that I found with Lutris if you don’t have access to a Windows PC or would prefer not going through the hassle of transferring files from a Windows PC or Virtual Machine:

  1. Download the Windows Setup file for Steam directly from the Steam website.
  2. Install Steam into your system’s default Wine prefix and allow it to update. Then exit Steam.
  3. Launch Lutris and click on the cog icon next to Runners to go into the configuration section.
  4. Open the settings for the Wine Steam runner.
  5. The very first option in the Runners tab should be “Custom Steam Location.” Browse to the location of your Windows Steam install in your default Wine prefix and select it (should be “~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Steam” if Steam was installed to the default location).
  6. Go back to Lutris and search for the Steam game you wish to install and follow all the prompts from Lutris.
  7. Everything should work from here on.

is it possible to do this on a seperate non default wine prefix, i don’t lik installing stuff on the default i prefer to keep it clean so i have something to refer to
