Thank you again for all the help! I have the Hitman log first and at line 250 is where the Sims 2 one starts, as they are much shorter so it makes the most sense to have them as one document to me at least! Here’s the dropbox link!
Ok so it seems the vulkaninfo fail is a red herring, as it still happens when it works… sorry about that!
The difference is the (repeated) line:
err: Presenter: Failed to query present modes: -13
Looking it up I found this:
Could you try going to configure→runner options and change the wine version to one of the proton versions?
That’s what I figured was the issue but wasn’t sure! I run every game with Proton, either GE or Experimental, and I did see this thread and tried swapping around the runners, but it didn’t do anything!
Oh sad, would’ve been nice if it was easy…
I looked some more on the internet, it might be trying to use the wrong gpu
Could you try in system options setting the gpu it should use (the nvidia I assume)?
That’s what I thought when I saw that thread too! I have a laptop that was prebuilt, so it has both AMD and Nvidia gpus in it, and it seems my system primarily uses the AMD one, as it says that is the integrated one and Nvidia is the discrete one. Thank you again for helping and trying to figure something out here, this is SUCH an odd issue!
There’s a few more ways you can try making it use one of the two gpus, the easiest one is to run prime-run lutris -d, that makes it use the nvidia, you can also use prime-select to change which gpu(s) it uses (but you’ll have to reboot to apply that):
sudo prime-select intel makes it only use the integrated GPU
sudo prime-select nvidia makes it only use the dedicated GPU
sudo prime-select on-demand is what you’re in right now
Lastly you could try rebooting and going into the bios and disabling one of the gpus, how exactly that works depends on what laptop you have
I just want to get some clarification here because I am a bit confused on why the GPU would be the issue. I just don’t understand why it would be switching to a different GPU after an hour or two of being awake? And that is the thing that confuses me, is that this works sometimes. I’m not super savvy with computer hardware, so I just maybe don’t get this, but it feels like it has to be more of a software issue than hardware, because I just do not get that it’s randomly switching to a different GPU after a bit of operation and that’s what the issue is. I’m not trying to shoot any ideas down or anything because I VERY very much appreciate all of your help and brainstorming, it’s just that it DOES work after a bit of time and I just don’t know how much that makes sense when these games worked fine a few updates ago with the exact same set up GPU wise. Or is it an issue with the fact it’s two kinds of GPUs in there?
The fact that it works after a while is very confusing to me too. I honestly don’t know if/that it is a gpu issue, I’m just going through options… But even if it were choosing the wrong gpu there wouldn’t be a good solution cos you can’t permanently not use one of your gpus, that just doesn’t make sense…
I guess if I’m being honest I’m a lil stumped
Does it actually work 100% of the time after the device has been on for a while?
Me too, I’ve been looking everywhere online and it just really feels like such a weird issue. I really just may call it and say that since it works after an hour, that it will be fine and I just have to get the timing down to when I am able to play. Thank you again, this is just SUCH an odd issue, and I really appreciate all of your time and patience with helping! As for consistency working, from what I have experienced, yes. I launched the Sims 2 (quicker to open and close than Hitman) 5 times in a row and it worked perfectly each time. I guess my computer is just a little quirky with this, or something. I really am fine I think with it just being a bit of time that my PC has to be up and running before I can get Lutris to work even though it is SO odd.
Editing that my computer has now been up for 2 hours and the games will not launch with graphics so who knows. It is such an odd bug
Editing again that I tried to get the Fedora specific version rather than Flatpak and the error still persists. I have no idea what is going on. I am not sure if removing ALL of my files related to Lutris and doing a full reinstall would help but I just really don’t know. It is so inconsistent with when it works and when it does not.
Could it be related to something else running in the background? Like maybe it only works if something else is also running or not running or something
See, that’s what I thought too. I have Discord and Firefox usually in the background when I’m gaming but usually close Firefox so I have more RAM for gaming, and I tried having Firefox open and closed during trying to get the games to work, but I will try again! It is all SO so odd!
